Reading and learning activities and approaches
We organise activities and events that bring together young people from different schools, the public and private sectors, and NGOs, authors, and storytellers.
Authors and storytellers will primarily be from Tanzania, but occasionally we will bring in guests from other countries to network and stimulate reading communities across borders.
Reading activities are intended to incorporate playful and non-formal learning methods, as well as to encourage youth participation, actions, and voice. These methods include acting (making a narrative and acting it out, singing a story, or playing a game based on a favourite book), creative writing, arts and crafts based on a book story, and reading.
We arrange a variety of events and make sure that children have numerous opportunities to read, listen, and learn both individually and collectively, utilising various media platforms both online and in actual settings. This combination is crucial for ensuring inclusion and leaving no one behind. Radio programs, podcasts, and digital as well as printed booklets and/or zines are examples of media outlets used so that others can learn from them and implement them in their own ways.
Collaboration with local writers
To allow young people gaining access to reading materials that speak close to the realities and to promote Swahili literature, we also engage with local writers and storytellers. Tanzania is rich in storytellers, writers, and established authors. However, their work is often not well published or distributed, and there are few events or venues where their work can meet its readers and listeners.
